Upcoming Workshops

The Biology of Immortality:  FREE for all

Topic:  The Biology of Immortality - Why Do We Age? (Ages 10-15)

Overview:  Can science actually slow down — or even stop — aging? In this 60-minute online workshop, middle schoolers will explore what really happens inside our cells as we grow older, why some animals like jellyfish and hydra seem to “escape” aging, and how scientists are testing breakthroughs like telomere extension, senolytic drugs, and CRISPR gene editing. Students will also dive into the big questions: if humans lived forever, who should get access, and how would it change the world? It’s a mix of real science, wild possibilities, and ethical debates — perfect for curious thinkers who want to peek at the future of biology.

When: Wednesday, August 20th, 5-6pm PST

Where:  ONLINE

The Biology and Technology of Space-Grown Food:  FREE for all

Topic:  The Biology and Technology of Space-Grown Food (Ages 10-15)

Overview:  In this 60-minute workshop, students gain a unique look at the science and engineering challenges of living—and eating—on Mars. They explore how extreme space conditions, from microgravity to radiation, affect humans and plants, and why current astronaut food falls short. Using pizza as a lens, students investigate the biological and technological innovations needed to grow food in space, building skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and systems biology. By connecting these space challenges to real-world issues in sustainability and agriculture, this workshop gives students a rare opportunity to think like scientists and engineers tackling tomorrow’s toughest problems.

When: Saturday, August 23th, 3-4pm PST

Where:  ONLINE
